Voting to Limit Voting Rights

Many homeowner associations are limiting the ability of a member to cast more than two votes, notwithstanding the fact that he or she may own more than two units or lots. Governing documents may be amended to create such restrictions, thus limiting a member's ability to control who is elected to the board and how the association's funds are used. Such amendments must be drafted by an experienced HOA attorney and then approved by the membership utilizing the two envelope, secret ballot process.
